Le Corbusier was the most influent and best-know architect of the twenty century. Erlier than any other architect he realised that new method of building required not only a functional approach, but a completely new aesthetic. His furniture, like his architecture was based on the realisation that new methods of production, materials and social trends necessitated a new approach to the problems of design. His willingness to totally rethink existing conventions resulted in forms wich were both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and his chair are now recognised as landmarkers in the story of design.
